Why does matching name, address and phone matter?
Imagine your business appears as "Smith Roofing LLC" on one site and "Smith Roofing" on another, with an old phone number on a third. A person might still work it out. A search engine has to guess whether these are one business or three.
Keeping NAP consistent is a widely used practice in local SEO. Google also says prominence draws on information from across the web, including directories. We treat citations as a supporting signal that helps the basics line up, not as a magic switch.
